Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III is ‘very, very, very close’ to returning to the lineup, per head coach Jay Gruden.
After upsetting division rival Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football, the Washington Redskins have some even better news to share. Robert Griffin III could be back very soon, which means previously dismissed Washington could have some serious life in the NFC.

Gruden wouldn’t go so far as to say Griffin could be back for the team’s Week 9 game at the Minnesota Vikings, which could put him in line to return after their Week 10 bye, when the team hosts Tampa Bay.
Don’t look now, but if Washington can beat Minnesota and get to the bye at 4-5, they could look at making a run in the NFC with their starting quarterback under the helm with three division games still to be played. The team may be well behind Dallas and Philadelphia, even with Monday’s win, but they’ll have at least a little control over their destiny if they want to make a run in the NFC East.
Robert Griffin III meanwhile is hoping to remain healthy to aid such a bid, but the defense will also hope to make its mark the way it did against Dallas. The team totaled five sacks and two forced fumbles in a 20-17 overtime victory.
