Robert Griffin III was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice, but don’t expect the Washington Redskins to suit him up for this Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings

Washington Redskins fans shouldn’t get too giddy about news that QB Robert Griffin III was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice. While RGIII did split first-team snaps with Colt McCoy, the fact that he is not yet cleared by doctors for game action puts (for now) a damper on his possible return for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Wednesday was the first time Griffin was a full participant in practice since dislocating his left ankle early in Washington’s week two win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Although coach Jay Gruden kept the possibility of a Griffin return this week in play, it seems more likely that the Redskins won’t get their franchise cornerstone back until a week 11 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Washington has a week 10 bye, which would allow Griffin another full week to continue progressing.

The Redskins are 3-5 entering this week, but have won their last two games, including last Monday’s 20-17 overtime win at the Dallas Cowboys. McCoy has been a key factor in both victories since replacing Kirk Cousins prior to the second half of their win over the Tennessee Titans, having completed 36 of 42 passes for 427 yards and a touchdown.

Despite McCoy’s recent success, the Redskins are still struggling to score points, as they are 23rd in the league with 21.3 points per game entering Sunday.
