The Charlotte Hornets are now offering a $75 jumbo burger at games called “Hugo’s Boss” to attract more NBA fans.

The NBA is the latest to join the new concession takeover in sports where teams feel it’s necessary to put the weirdest, most outrageous food on the menu in order to attract attention and money. The Charlotte Hornets have done so with an 8-pound burger called “Hugo’s Boss.”

The “Hugo’s Boss” has 14 patties and weighs 8-pounds. It’s obviously meant to share but it’s only days before we see someone trying to wolf down the whole thing. Hopefully cameramen will keep an eye on the Charlotte Hornets audience.

This is not the first thing to take over the sports world of concessions this year. As you know if you ever went to a sporting event, the concessions are one of the most important parts of the experience.

Well, the Arizona D-backs knew this when they created the 18-inch corn dog, D-Bat, that is stuffed with cheddar cheese, jalapenos and bacon. This heart attack in food form costs just $25. They were so popular that they sold 300 D-Bats on the first night but then began to run out because they couldn’t make them fast enough. That’s still $7,500 in corn dog sales, however. The 3,000 calorie monster can be seen here.

Another concession phenomenon was when Minnesota changed the game with the help of concessionaire Delaware North and Anheuser-Busch. DraftServ allows customers to get their own beer dispensed to them after showing ID to an attendant and preloading a card with money to insert to the machine.

The machine allows a customer to use the card to pour up to 48 ounces of beer every 15 minutes. This was displayed at the 2014 MLB All-Star game at Target Field.

The Atlanta Falcons began to offer alcohol-infused cupcakes in at preseason games in August to attract more attention, which was probably the weirdest yet most satisfying concession stand item of the year.

And this is just to name a few. Concession stand innovation has started to become an art in sports. We’ll see what comes out next as the shining star of sports concessions. Would you try the “Hugo’s Boss” burger?
