On the day that LeBron James is making is official return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, one of the players he has enjoyed playing with over the course of his entire career is about to get paid. According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, the Cleveland Cavaliers are nearing a $30 million extension for Anderson Varejao.

"The Cleveland Cavaliers are nearing agreement on a contract extension with long-serving big man Anderson Varejao, league sources told ESPN.com on Thursday.Sources said the Cavaliers and Varejao — one of LeBron James’ most beloved teammates — are closing in on a new three-year deal worth an estimated $30 million that would kick in starting with the 2015-16 season."

A raise to $10 million per season for Varejao, who is currently making just over $9.7 million in the final year of his $48 million contract, is huge for the big man. There were questions in the offseason of whether Varejao would even be the starting center or not, as Tristan Thompson entered the discussion.

In the end, Varejao won the starting job and he’s going to be getting a contract extension in the coming days. Paying him $30 million over three seasons is a hefty price, but the Cavaliers are clearly in this to win this over the long term.
