The Dallas Cowboys are still one of the best teams in the NFL, despite how banged up they got in the offseason, but injuries can still derail their season and Bruce Carter is on that list.

Bruce Carter is a player the Dallas Cowboys need for more than one reason this season. Not only is a contributor on one of the best teams in the NFL, but the Cowboys are somehow hanging near the top of the NFC playoff picture despite having little depth all over their defense.

It was something that plagued the team last year and it could be something coming back to bite them again. Carter broke his finger in practice this week and is now questionable moving forward.

Per ProFootballTalk.com, the injury occurred when Carter’s finger got caught in the pads of backup running back Philip Dunbar.

"Carter just returned after missing three games with a groin injury and now he’s dealing with a broken left ring finger. Carter broke the finger when it got caught in the pads of running back Lance Dunbar at practice on Thursday, but expects to play against the Cardinals this weekend after having a splint put on by a doctor on Friday."

Unlike the injury to Sean Lee ,which looked like it was going to derail the Cowboys season before it even started, this is not a big deal. Carter is a cog in the Dallas defense, but a broken finger to a football player is like a missing tooth to a hockey player — it comes with the territory.

Carter may be limited this week and may not play a whole lot, but a broke finger won’t keep him away for too long and Dallas will be thankful for that after glancing at their linebacker depth chart.
