Running back Donald Brown has missed the last three weeks with a concussion but he was back at practice for the San Diego Chargers.

Donald Brown returned to the San Diego Chargers practice field Wednesday after missing three weeks with a concussion.

Brown was a full participant in practice and should be ready to go when the Chargers visit the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

Brown signed with the Chargers as a free agent this spring after five years with the

Indianapolis Colts

and was set to be the primary backup to Ryan Mathews at running back.

But when Mathews injured his right leg, Brown moved to the top of the depth chart.

He wasn’t overly effective as a starter and has just 126 yards on 59 carries this season, a 2.1 yard per carry average.

Now that he’s back, he will likely be behind rookie Branden Oliver, who leads San Diego with 352 yards on 85 carries and has scored three touchdowns, two on the ground and one on a pass reception.

“It’s something you don’t want to mess with,” Brown told reporters, via Pro Football Talk. “You never wish it on anybody.”

Brown rushed for 537 yards and six touchdowns last season for the Colts, averaging 5.3 yards a carry. He was the 27th overall pick by Indianapolis out of Connecticut in 2009 and has 2,503 career rushing yards and 17 touchdowns.

He also has caught 13 passes this season for 76 yards.
