Drew Brees throws a wild interception on Thursday Night against the Carolina Panthers.

Coming into tonight’s contest versus the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has been the one shining light in this otherwise downtrodden season that has them at just a record of 3-4. The Panthers are paddling the same creek in the underachieving NFC South with a similar record and no true positives to speak of. Brees’ light dimmed a little with an early interception.

What made the interception so unforgivable was the fact that it occurred in the red zone with the Saints threatening to drop six on the scoreboard in hostile territory. Instead, the pass was tipped by the Panthers’ defender making an excellent play on a ball that should not have been thrown. This would give Carolina terrific field position and send the Saints back to the iPad drawing board.

Coming into this game, Drew Brees was boasting a respected 14 touchdowns to just 7 interceptions with a quarterback rating of 97.4. If the Saints are going to stand a chance at leaving Charlotte with a .500 record, he’s definitely going to have to keep that momentum going and avoid making bad decisions. Especially in with the end zone staring him in the face.

The Saints are in a good position to take the lead in the NFC South over a Panthers team that’s still searching for their identity, a Bucs team that has no clue how to win, and a Falcons team that has no

will

to. New Orleans defense has shown flashes of being effective, but, this is the Brees show and as he goes as will they. Divisional games are always tough no matter what the record is so gift-wrapping the ball to the opposing team won’t help any. Not unless your goal is 3-5.
