Title IX: The Karlos Williams Story sounds like the title of an HBO movie, yet there’s nothing fictional (or funny) about the Florida State running back’s plight. Williams will be investigated for a Title IX issue that stems from an domestic battery incident.
The case began last weekend when a screenshot of a Facebook post was emailed to Tallahassee police chief Michael DeLeo from FSU general counsel Carolyn Egan. It was reportedly a screenshot from the Facebook page of Williams’ pregnant girlfriend.
The records were made public following a petition was made by legal consultant Michael Barfield, who filed the request for them on Wednesday.
“While each set of facts and circumstances is different, as a general matter notice of any Title IX-related issues would prompt an investigation,” said Florida State spokesperson Browning Brooks.
The Seminoles’ leading rusher will be suited up for Thursday night’s game against Louisville despite becoming the latest dark cloud over the team’s bid to defend its national championship. Quarterback and reining Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston is still under possible Title IX violations in regards to an alleged sexual assault case in December 2012.
In Williams’ situation, the alleged victim has asked that the investigation come to an end, although Tallahassee police has chosen to move forward with it.
As of now, Williams is not charged with anything, nor is guilty of any violations.
