Four years ago it appeared any semblance of a relationship between LeBron James and Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert was destroyed. James left the Cavaliers to sign with the Miami Heat and Gilbert published a scathing letter about James on the Cavs’ team website.
But now, with James again a Cavaliers, the two claim all is well between them.
From ESPN:
"“I think it’s really good,” James said when asked about his rapport with the Cavs’ owner. “We had one bad moment, and it just overshadowed all the great times we had together, and now we’re back together.“We both have something in common: That’s to bring a championship back to this city, and that’s what it comes down to. That’s what our thrive is, that’s what our drive is, and we have an opportunity and we have an obligation to represent this team and this franchise the right way.”Gilbert described their relationship as “very good, very solid.” It’s so light between the two these days that they even joke with each other."
It seems hard to believe that LeBron and Gilbert have fully made up after the incredibly harsh things the Cavs owner wrote about James in 2010. But it’s not as if either party would admit they still had a bad taste in their mouth in regards to what happened four years ago at this point. So, for now, LeBron and Gilbert are claiming they’re friendly with one another again..
James spent his first seven years in the NBA with the Cavaliers before signing with Miami in 2010. He signed a two-year contract with Cleveland this offseason.
