Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett plans to play Saturday against Illinois despite the injury he suffered last week.

In the second quarter of last Saturday’s 31-24 double-overtime win over Penn State, Ohio State redshirt freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett suffered an MCL sprain but stayed in the game to see the victory through. J.T. Barrett said Wednesday that he’ll be playing Saturday when they get back on the college football field against Illinois.

“It would have to be something drastic that happens between now and Saturday, but I plan on planning Saturday,” J.T. Barrett said on Wednesday.

J.T. Barrett wore a brace after practice Wednesday but insisted it was nothing serious.

“Knee’s doing well, progressing every day,” Barrett said. “Practice was fine. I was limited at first but then today got out there and did some stuff at the end which was good.”

He also told reporters that as of right now, he is playing on Saturday.

J.T. Barrett’s numbers weren’t all that impressive last Saturday, but he got Ohio State the victory while he through 12-for-19, 74 yards, touchdown and two interceptions. He also ran for 75 yards and two touchdowns.

Ohio State’s original starting quarterback for the season, Braxton Miller is out for the season with a shoulder injury that he suffered before the season began.

J.T. Barrett has been impressive in backing him up as he’s thrown for 1,689 yards, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He’s also rushed for 458 yards and six touchdowns.

Ohio State is 6-1 and has Illinois at home this Saturday before they pack up for one of their biggest games of the year and head to Michigan State.
