Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has been out since the first quarter in Week 2 after dislocating his ankle, but he’s set to start Sunday.

The speculation is over—barring anything unforeseen, Robert Griffin III will start for the Washington Redskins Sunday when they visit the Minnesota Vikings.

Coach Jay Gruden announced at his press conference Thursday that Griffin is the guy.

According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, via Twitter:

Gruden also said there would be no need to rest Griffin until after Washington’s bye week next week, because so much of the time off will be without practice.

Griffin was 31-for-40 for 305 yards in his two games—actually five quarters—this season. Kirk Cousins started five games after relieving Griffin after he was injured against the

Jacksonville Jaguars

on Sept. 14, but Cousins was benched at halftime of the Redskins’ game against the

Tennessee Titans

on Oct. 19.

Third-stringer Colt McCoy led Washington to a come-from-behind win in that contest and then piloted the team to an upset of the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night.

Cousins completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 1,710 yards and 10 touchdowns, with nine interceptions. McCoy was 36-for-42 for 427 yards and a touchdown with one pick in his two appearances.

Griffin is trying to regain the form of his rookie campaign, when he threw for 3,200 yards and 20 touchdowns and only five interceptions while also rushing for 815 yards.

He injured his knee late in the season and finished it off while attempting to hobble through a playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Griffin started 13 games last season, but was benched for the final three games in favor of Cousins.
