The New Orleans Saints hadn’t been on point this season but they managed to go into Carolina to get their first road win of the 2014 season.

Drew Brees should never be doubted when it comes to leading the Saints to glory, as he demonstrated that in back-to-back national television appearances. On Sunday night, the Saints blew out the Green Bay Packers and then turned around to beat the Carolina Panthers on the road four days later.

The star of the game wasn’t Brees, it was running back Mark Ingram who seems to finally be coming into his own. After missing a month to a broken hand, the former first round pick out of Alabama went off on Thursday night. Ingram went for 100 yards even and two touchdowns that helped get the Saints the momentum the needed.

The Carolina Panthers are 1-5-1 since starting 2-0, which is a problem for those hoping that the Panthers will take over the NFC South. The division is very winnable, but the Panthers can’t have games like they had tonight. Carolina had numerous opportunities to take over the game, but they allowed Drew Brees to get all over them. A key play occurred when Brees threw up a hail mary style pass that resulted in a pass interference and eventually a touchdown before halftime.

It wasn’t a clinching drive, but it made the game 14-0 at halftime which means the Saints needed to hold for just half a game at that point.

New Orleans now takes control of the NFC South as they’re separating themselves from the terrible competition in their division. It’s still anyone’s guess as to who will win the division, but the Saints are starting to make a convincing case.
