It’s not likely Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin will play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, but he has shed the walking boot on his injured left ankle.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin isn’t ready to return yet, but he’s closer than he was.

According to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times, via Twitter:

Martin played Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings before leaving in the third quarter with an ankle injury. He had missed two games earlier this season with a knee injury, as well.

He is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Browns.

He has 166 yards on 58 carries with one touchdown this season, just a 2.9 yard per carry average.

Martin was limited to six games last season because of a torn labrum and rushed for 456 yards and a touchdown.

The 31st overall pick by the Bucs out of Boise State in 2012, Martin burst onto the scene as a rookie, running for 1,454 yards and 11 touchdowns and earning a Pro Bowl berth.

Tampa Bay is just 1-6 this season and is being led in rushing by reclamation project Bobby Rainey, who has 287 yards and a touchdown on 62 attempts and has caught 22 passes for 180 yards and a score.

The Buccaneers have accomplished a dubious double through eight weeks this season, ranking last in the NFL in total offense and total defense in their first year under former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith.
