The Dallas Mavericks had some fun before the NBA season started, and released a funny video of stars Dirk Nowitzki, Chandler Parsons and Monta Ellis rapping together, calling themselves the new Run DMC.

Well, don’t say the Dallas Mavericks take themselves too seriously, though after watching Dirk Nowitzki, Monta Ellis and Chandler Parsons rap about their team, maybe they should consider it. The team posted a video of their three stars rapping a song called “Can’t Be Stopped,” under the name of Run DMC:

There’s already a legendary hip-hop group named

Run D.M.C.

, but this video is clearly meant in humor and not trying to mock the influential Queens rap act, and the “DMC” likely refers to the first names of the three stars: Dirk, Monta and Chandler.

Although the flow of the players leaves a lot to be desired, it’s not as cringe-worthy as you’d expect, and there’s actually some pretty entertaining rhymes in it, including some throwaway shade by Parsons to his former team, the Houston Rockets, who allowed Parsons to join the Mavericks in restricted free agency.

It’s worth watching just to see Nowitzki look like an early 1990’s rapper and the washed-out effects that were typical in music videos at the time. But maybe next time, someone should stop them.
