Richard Sherman said he expects Oakland Raiders rookie QB Derek Carr to take some shots with throws against the Seattle secondary because ‘he doesn’t know any better’.

When the Oakland Raiders faced the Seattle Seahawks in the preseason, rookie Derek Carr took it to the Seattle defense, much to the surprise of the NFL community.

Carr finished 11-for-13 for 143 passing yards with three passing touchdowns, scorching the Seahawks secondary in the process. He may have caught them by surprise then, but Richard Sherman doesn’t plan to get caught flat-footed again as the defending Super Bowl champs prepare to host the NFL’s lone winless team.

The Seahawks expect Carr to once again air it out against their defense because Carr is, as coach Pete Carroll puts it, ‘a gunslinger’. It was Richard Sherman though who predictably had a more elaborate explanation.

“I’m not really surprised, at all. I mean, he doesn’t know any better,” Sherman said per the News-Tribune. He let a coy smile slip upon saying that, but don’t expect the Seahawks defense to be smiling once the teams hit the field. Rookie or not, Sherman and this secondary are no doubt still sore over that preseason match.

Carr has completed 61% of his passes for 1,517 yards, nine touchdowns and five interceptions. He has started all seven games for the Raiders and provided a glimmer of hope for the future on yet another putrid Oakland squad. Now he’ll have a chance to deliver the year’s first win on the biggest stage the Raiders will find this year. If August was any indication, don’t expect Carr to back down from the challenge.

Richard Sherman expects nothing less, concluding, “They’ve got nothing to lose — obviously.”
