Ryan Matthews returned to practice for the first time since injuring his knee as the San Diego Chargers running back nears a return

The San Diego Chargers have been decimated by injuries to their backfield with Ryan Matthews, Danny Woodhead and Donald Brown battling various injuries. While Woodhead is lost for the year with his injury, the team hopes to get Matthews back in Week 11 after the team’s bye next week.

Matthews returned to practice for the first time, albeit on a limited fashion, on Friday for the first time since he injured his MCL in Week 2.

The Chargers have ruled him out for this weekend’s game against the Miami Dolphins, but the hope is to have him back in two weeks after the team’s bye week next week with the hopes he can return for some full practices to get back in game shape.

Matthews won’t be back this week, but Brown is expected to play after missing the last three games and backup the surprising Branden Oliver who leads the team in rushing with 352 yards.

The Chargers are tied for second place in the AFC West with a 5-3 record, but have lost two in a row, so they’ll look to get back on the winning track this week and head into the bye with some momentum and come out of it with Brown and Matthews back in the lineup to complement the surprising Oliver.
