The MLB off-season is officially underway, with teams all over the league making their initial moves to set up their respective winter plans. The Blue Jays faced a potentially tricky situation with Adam Lind, and so on Saturday, they found a trade for the left-handed slugger. Lind was dealt to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Marco Estrada.

That deal sends Lind to a team that has been notoriously needy at the first base position for the last year or so. Lind might not quite be able to handle a full-time load at first base due to health and the limitations of his defensive abilities, but he will certainly be the regular starter there in Milwaukee.

That means that this trade sets Lind up for something close to a full-time gig. Many people wondered if Lind would be better suited for a platoon or for an American League team that could use him as designated hitter. Now we know, after the fact, about one such American League team that considered trading for the slugger.

Ken Rosenthal reports the following about the Chicago White Sox and their interest in Lind.

The White Sox likely viewed Lind as a potential replacement for part of the designated hitter void left by the combination of Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko. That might also explain why they were not willing to give up much for him, and therefore why the Brewers ultimately landed him.

In 96 games in 2014, Lind batted .321/.381/.479 with six home runs and 40 RBI.
