On Saturday evening, one of the fiercest rivalries in the soccer world invaded Estadio Azteca with Club America and Chivas Guadalajara squaring off in El Super Clasico in Week 15 of the Liga MX Apertura.

After a hard-fought 90 minutes, El Super Clasico ended in a scoreless draw.

While it would not have been a surprise to see Las Aguilas, who sit in first place of the Liga MX table, come away with a dominating victory at home, it did not look like a top-ranked team taking on a club sitting in the penultimate position in the league table.

Chivas put together a strong opening 45 minutes as they kept Club America off the board and threatened with some pressure of their own in the final ten minutes of the first half.

We entered the break of El Super Clasico tied at zero.

The two sides continued the back-and-forth as we began the second half, as the intensity started to pick up.

In the 68th minute of the match, Club America went to the bench for a spark and brought in Mexican international Miguel Layun while Michael Arroyo headed to the bench. Layun jogged onto the pitch to huge cheers from the Las Aguilas faithful at Estadio Azteca.

Shortly after Layun found his way onto the pitch, America had a quality scoring chance off of a corner, but they failed to capitalize.

Both sides were picking up the pressure in the closing minutes of the match, while trying to avoid giving up a late goal. It was a balance of offense and defense from the El Super Clasico rivals with time running out.

In the 82nd minute, Club America got a beautiful opportunity off of a diving header from Oribe Peralta, but Chivas came up with the huge save. Chivas then countered off of a corner kick with a fast break opportunity, but failed to convert.

With two minutes to go, Chivas had another scoring opportunity after a foul from Paul Aguilar which resulted in a yellow card.

Unfortunately for Chivas, the free kick was blocked and Club America went on the counter attack where they earned a corner kick. Chivas escaped danger as the corner kick sailed wide and three minutes of stoppage time were placed on the clock.

Ultimately, neither side was able to secure a goal in the final moments of the match and we ended in a scoreless draw.
