Johnny Gaudreau tops off an extremely successful four minute rush for Calgary Flames

No one truly expected the Calgary Flames to be playing some of the most exciting hockey of the 2014-2015 season, but it’s sure looking like that’ll be the case.

More from Calgary Flames

The Flames surged past the Nashville Predators with three goals in four minutes and one second early on in the third period of Friday night’s game, maintaining their new-found lead for the final minutes in order to take home a 4-3 victory over the Central Division franchise. The Calgary squad now sits at an impressive 6-4-2 record, good for fourth in the Pacific Division.

The highlight of the night, it seems, would be the three-goal flurry. Credit has to be give, though, to Calgary’s own ‘Johnny Hockey’, pint-sized Johnny Gaudreau, who made all his larger icemates look absolutely silly as he scored the game-winning goal.

Gaudreau, who was drafted in the fourth round (104th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, surprised everyone by snagging the Hobey Baker Award (best NCAA hockey player) in 2014 for Boston College. He’s listed at 5’9″ and 150 lbs, but he’s clearly skating circles around… well, everyone else.

Johnny Hockey plays literally the most exciting game I’ve seen since Patrick Kane. I’d like to create a league comprised of him, Kane, and Torey Krug, and just let these’ miniature speed demons whip around the ice together for a full sixty minutes. In any case. Pekka Rinne stood practically no chance against Gaudreau there.

Calgary will next play against the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday, November 2nd.
