The Florida Gators earned their biggest win since 2012 when they upset the rival Georgia Bulldogs 38-20 on Saturday afternoon.

The Florida running game was the story. Treon Harris completed just three-of-six passes for 27 yards but Florida rushed for 424 yards (!). Kelvin Taylor had 197 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries while Matt Jones had 192 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.

Nick Chubb led Georgia with 21 carries for 156 yards and a touchdown plus a touchdown reception. Hutson Mason was 26-of-41 for 319 yards and a touchdown.

After each team was forced to pun on their first possession, Georgia looked like they were ready to roll. The Bulldogs looked like they were ready to roll. They drove 85 yards in nine plays capped by a 39-yard touchdown run by Chubb.

After the teams traded a few more punts, Florida made a huge mistake when Harris mishandled the snap and fumbled. Georgia recovered at the Florida 48. Florida was able to hold them to a 39-yard Marshall Morgan field goal attempt and he missed it wide left (maybe, it was very close).

Florida finally got a solid drive going in second quarter. Florida drove to the Georgia 22 and had first-and-10 but on the next player, there was a bad snap and they lost 18 yards. Florida got back to the 21 by fourth down and that’s where the game completely changed. Florida faked a field goal and Michael McNeely, the holder, raced 21 yards for a touchdown to tie the game.

After Georgia punted again, Florida took advantage. They went 64 yards on five plays with Taylor gaining 51 of the yards and scoring a touchdown (that included a 44-yard run). That was the score at halftime.

Florida opened the second half continuing to run right at the Georgia defense and a beautiful 44-yard run by Jones extended the lead to 21-7. Georgia went three-and-out and Florida again ran right down the field but were held to a 21-yard field goal attempt, which Francisco Velez connected on.

It looked like the Bulldogs were finally going to get back in it on a 43-yard run by Chubb but he fumbled and Florida recovered on the 31-yard line. After the teams traded stops, Andre Debose brought a punt back 38 yards to the Georgia 26. Florida cashed in five plays later on a one-yard run by Jones.

Georgia finally got back on the board a possession later on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Mason to Chubb but they missed the two-point conversion. After a stop, Georgia drove to the Florida two-yard line but Mason’s pass was knocked out of Michael Bennett’s hands by Marcus Maye with just over five minutes to play, all but ending the game.

Kelvin Taylor added a 65-yard touchdown to cap the huge day by Florida’s running back duo. Brendan Douglas scored from a yard out in the final seconds to make the final score 38-20.

The Gators improve to 4-3 (3-3 SEC) while the Bulldogs fall to 6-2 (4-2 SEC). The Gators will hit the road to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores next week while the Bulldogs will be in Kentucky to take on the Wildcats.
