The Dallas Cowboys are one of the most successful teams in the NFL so far this season. As such, one would think that their typical brand of drama might be on hold at least a little bit. Alas, it appears that prosperity still breeds a little bit of dysfunction.
There was reportedly an altercation this week between players, including running back Joseph Randle, Dez Bryant, and Josh Brent. This week happens to be the lead-up to a huge game for the Cowboys as they prepare for the Arizona Cardinals. While this verbal dust-up might have been no big deal in the long run, it did not come at a great time.
As such, head coach Jason Garrett reportedly met with those players this week. According to Ed Werder:
Jason Garrett met with @DezBryant, Josh Brent and Joseph Randle after verbal altercation Fri, discussed concerns with entire team Sat.

Being the head coach of the Cowboys has a few special nuances and challenges. Dealing with the looming presence of owner Jerry Jones is one. Facing all the media scrutiny and attention is another. Any NFL head coach has to deal with scuffles and altercations over the course of a season, but given the coverage of the Cowboys, Garrett has to do so with everybody watching. That has to wear a guy down eventually.
Many people were not sure Garrett could handle all of those challenges entering this season. Maybe they still aren’t sure. But it’s been so far, so good for the Cowboys. They will hope that this altercation is no thing, that Tony Romo gets healthy in time to start, and that they can keep the good times rolling this weekend against the Cardinals.
