Kings’s Nolan Hits Red Wings’ Helm, Massive Fight Ensues (Video)
In Detroit Red Wings victory over the Los Angeles Kings, a nasty hit resulted in momentary chaos
The Los Angeles Kings fell 5-2 to the Detroit Red Wings Friday night, but the blowout win over the reigning Stanley Cup champions wasn’t the big story coming off the ice in Detroit.

Early on in the third period, Kings centerman Jordan Nolan rammed Red Wings center Darren Helm into the boards from behind; within seconds, Helm’s teammate Jonathan Ericsson had tackled Nolan, and pandemonium ensued.
It took the referees a decent chunk of time to separate the giant pile of skaters- including Helm, who it seemed was just fine post-hit and remained in the game. Ericsson, though, got to join Nolan in the sin bin for his efforts- each player received two minutes for their respective infractions.
The only other major potential highlight of the game came shortly after the scrum, when Dustin Brown was awarded a penalty shot for being tripped on the breakaway. Had he scored, the 4-0 lead Detroit had notched in the first period would have been narrowed to 4-3; Brown shot straight at Red Wings netminder Jimmy Howard, though, and the Wings managed to instead widen their margin of victory.
There is no word on whether Nolan will be penalized further for attempting a blindside hit, one of the most dangerous moves in hockey.
