The Los Angeles Lakers re-signed big man Jordan Hill to a two-year, $18 million deal. Jordan Hill had a nice season but it was still a curious decision.
However, when it was revealed the second year was a team option, the deal made more sense. Although the Lakers proved they are big fans of Jordan Hill, Jabari Davis of Basketball Insiders believes the Lakers could look into trading Jordan Hill.
“Hill’s contract is both team-friendly and sizeable enough to be in play by the time February’s NBA trade deadline has arrived,” Davis explained. “The Lakers may not be as eager to move a frontcourt piece now that Julius Randle is lost for the season, but check back with this team after the New Year and see where things stand at this point.”
What kind of team could deal for Jordan Hill?
“For a team in contention or attempting to distance themselves from the pack, Hill’s size and post presence could be exactly what a team may come asking for. Even within the division, several teams are likely to come searching for frontcourt depth.”
There were plenty of teams after Jordan Hill at the trade deadline last year and he had more suitors during free agency. He could be very valuable as a big off of the bench for a contender.
Jordan Hill averaged for 9.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting 54.9% from the field and 68.5% from the free throw line last season. He joined the Lakers in 2012. He’s averaged 6.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while shooting 51.4% from the floor and 67.9% from the charity stripe in his career.
