Marcus Mariota has done a lot in his career as the Oregon Ducks starting QB, but one thing that he has not done is defeat the Stanford Cardinal. Saturday night he’s looking to get that first win over the Pac-12 foe, and he got off to a very good start.
Early on in the first quarter, with about 10 minutes to go in the opening period, Mariota capped off a 75-yard drive by firing off this six-yard touchdown pass to Charles Nelson for the early go-ahead score.
That’s certainly a good way to make sure that he can finally get past the one team from the Pac-12 that has consistently haunted him. However, not long after that, the Cardinal answered with a field goal to cut the lead to 7-3.
From the looks of that Stanford defense on that first drive, though, Mariota could be firing off a few more of these throughout the night.
