The Dallas Mavericks are on the road, playing the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday. While there, it looks like Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News noticed that a police officer working the game was sporting a 2011 Mavericks NBA championship ring.
Certainly bizarre, and Sefko asked about it to get the full and incredible story about how officer Andre Menzies got the ring from Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
"[Andre] Menzies told the story before Saturday’s game. In 2011, the Mavericks made a late-season trip to New Orleans and owner Mark Cuban, who had gotten to know Menzies through the years, was talking to him near the Mavericks’ bench.“I told Mark that day that they were going to win the championship,” Menzies said. “I asked him if they did if I was going to get a ring. He said I’d get a ring. And the man came through.”"
This story is just one of thousands of stories like this that Dallas residents have about Mark Cuban. It is also one of the many stories that illustrates why the Mavericks fan base loves Cuban so much.
