The Minnesota Golden Gophers Black Out Their Uniform to Add Fresh Energy to the Program
Did it get darker in here all of a sudden? It sure did, apparently. Minnesota Golden Gophers‘ head coach Richard Pitino has officially unveiled the black alternate uniforms for the Gophers via Twitter and in my opinion, they are a great look. And there’s just nothing wrong with winning and looking great while you do it.

Nike has designed the jersey to include a sketch in the underlay beneath the player’s number that provides a wonderful historic touch. Both the jersey and the shorts are trimmed in a yellow/gold variation that really add to the contrast of the uni. Imagine The Barn filled to maximum capacity with this color scheme. That would clearly be ‘the blackout’ that Pitino was alluding to.
This is sure to provide an extra boost of energy to an already feverishly fun fanbase and help Pitino build on a successful overall record in 2013. They will open at home on November 6th versus Minnesota-Duluth. The game that the new black uniforms will debut in has yet to be determined, but, they’re obviously on the way.
On you Gophers, you fighting Gophers!
