New York Giants offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo wants more explosive plays and wide receiver Odell Beckham is ready to answer that call.

The New York Giants’ offense hasn’t been as productive as first-year offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo would like in terms of what he calls explosive plays.

McAdoo told nj.com the Giants are a little behind the goal of 13 percent of their plays being classified as explosive.

"“Right now we’re at about 10.3 percent of our plays [being explosive], so we’re short about 2.7 percent of our goal, and anything above that we’ll take, but we’re working on that.”"

That the Giants have more than 10 percent of their plays considered “explosive” calls McAdoo’s definition of that word into question, considering Big Blue ranks near the bottom of the NFL in deep pass attempts.

But rookie receiver Odell Beckham is ready to answer the call.

"“I guess as a receiver, selfishly, anytime you have a chance to make a play, you’re gonna want to make it, so I know for myself and the receiving corps as well, once the ball is in the air, it’s ours, it’s our ball or nobody’s ball is our mentality as a receiver, so hopefully we get a couple chances to make some big plays and we show up big for Eli (Manning).”"

Beckham’s NFL career got off to a delayed start because of a lingering hamstring injury, but since debuting on Oct. 5, three of Beckham’s 10 receptions have gone for touchdowns.

The Giants drafted Beckham 12th overall in May out of LSU.
