Impending free agent third baseman Pablo Sandoval is seeking a large deal when he hits the open market in a few days, but he’d like to remain with the MLB champion San Francisco Giants, if possible.

Pablo Sandoval is reportedly seeking a $100-million-dollar contract this offseason, but he hasn’t closed the door on a return to the San Francisco Giants, and it appears to be his preference to return to the World Series champions, the only team he has played for in his seven-year career.

Third base is typically a thin position on the free agent market, and Sandoval is not only the best third baseman available on the market (assuming you consider Hanley Ramirez of the Los Angeles Dodgers a shortstop), but also one of the premier position players and a true impact bat in free agency. Sandoval will be 28, and has been relatively healthy in his career, although there have been questions regarding his weight. The Giants don’t appear to be too concerned about Sandoval’s weight any more, and his agent insists he works with a trainer year-round.

The Giants have a history of locking up their own players, such as Hunter Pence, Matt Cain, Tim Lincecum and Buster Posey, and have made it no secret that they’d like Panda back. Unexpected things can happen, but there seems to be a good chance of Sandoval’s return to San Francisco.
