Washington Wizards‘ small forward Paul Pierce was ejected tonight in his NBA home debut with Washington.

The Washington Wizards signed veteran free agent small forward Paul Pierce this past offseason, and were hoping that he could bring some balance and experience to their roster. He has played well so far this season, but was ejected in the second quarter just before halftime in tonight’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Pierce has always had a bit of a mouth when it comes to talking with referees, and has received his share of technical fouls throughout his career. Unfortunately, getting ejected from the game tonight cut his home debut for the Wizards short, and the fans weren’t too terribly happy with his decision-making when he picked up his second technical. That being said, Pierce is going to be a key piece for the Wizards this season, and this is just one bad judgement call by him.

Washington was one of the biggest surprises in the NBA last season, and they made an improvement by bringing Pierce onto the team. Not only is he a good scorer, he will also add the winning and championship experience that the Wizards needed in the playoffs last season. They might not end up representing the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals, but they are going to be very competitive with the top teams in the conference.

Bradley Beal isn’t playing yet this season due to a wrist injury, which has made the addition of Pierce even more important. He needs to stay on the court rather than get tossed out of the game for arguing with referees about a call.

All of that being said, the Wizards are going to be a very good team all season long. Adding Pierce to the team was something that was much needed, and they are prepared to take the next step this season. Pierce needs to keep his head clean from this type of thing, but it’s early in the year and hopefully won’t impact the outcome of the game as they are playing one of the lower teams in the league.
