Los Angeles Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto said he’s comfortable entering the 2015 MLB season with mostly the same team as last year, so don’t expect a big free agent splash from the Halos this winter.

Unlike the past few winters, don’t expect the Los Angeles Angels to start throwing a lot of money around this offseason. GM Jerry Dipoto said he’s comfortable entering next year with mostly the same roster, and LA stands to lose only three players via free agency this winter, but doesn’t expect to replace them via the free agent market.

The impending Angels free agents are infielder John McDonald, who can likely be retained at the league minimum if LA desired to keep him, RHP Jason Grilli, and LHP Joe Thatcher, both relievers. The Angels don’t have any left-handed relievers ready to take Thatcher’s spot, so they will likely replace him, but free agent Andrew Miller is unlikely to be a target for the team, as are many of the next tier-relievers.

The Angels, if they want to improve the current roster, will likely have to rely on trades, and reports indicate LA would be willing to deal second baseman Howie Kendrick or third baseman David Freese to help address holes in the bullpen or add starting pitching depth. Any starting pitcher targeted by LA would likely be under team control for at least a couple of years, and preferably have options remaining, but it doesn’t sound like any huge blockbuster deals will be happening for the Halos this winter.
