Report: Cleveland Cavaliers Sign Will Cherry, Cut A.J. Price

The Cleveland Cavaliers waited just two games to make a change deep on their roster, reportedly cutting guard A.J. Price and signing guard Will Cherry.

According to a report, the Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to a two-year deal with point guard Will Cherry and cut guard A.J. Price to open up a roster spot.

Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports reported the moves.

Cherry, 23, was signed by the

Toronto Raptors

in August after playing for the Cavaliers’ Summer League squad in Las Vegas. Cherry was waived by the Raptors on Oct. 25.

He averaged 3.4 points and 1.6 assists in 13.8 minutes per game in the five preseason games he played for Toronto, shooting .300/.143/.500.

Undrafted out of Montana in 2013, the Oakland, Calif., native played last season with the D-League’s Canton Charge, where he averaged 11.6 points, 4.5 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 30.3 minutes per game in 18 games, shooting .447/.333/.707.

Price, 28, had not played in either of Cleveland’s first two games. He signed a training-camp contract with the Cavaliers in late September and then earned a spot on the roster to open the season.

Price had averaged 7.2 points, 1.5 assists and 1.2 rebounds in 13.3 minutes per game in the six preseason games in which he appeared, shooting .455/.364/.625.

He spent most of last season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, averaging just 1.6 points in 3.5 minutes per game in 28 games, shooting .413/.273/0-for-2. Minnesota waived Price on April 3, a couple of weeks before the end of the regular season.

Price was a second-round pick of the Indiana Pacers in 2009 out of Connecticut and has also spent some time with the Washington Wizards in five NBA seasons.
