Status for 49ers Marcus Lattimore This Sunday Is Still Not Determined
After missing practice on this past Friday due to reported soreness in his knee, San Francisco 49ers‘ running back Marcus Lattimore’s status for this coming Sunday is still “up in the air”. He was cleared to practice on Wednesday, but, it appears the coaching staff is still noncommittal about him being on the field against the 2-5 St. Louis Rams.
This is Lattimore’s attempt at coming back from an extreme knee injury and it’s for this exact reason that the 49ers are being extra careful. When asked if Lattimore looked to be on track for a return, head coach John Harbaugh replied in a very “Harbaugh” fashion:
"“He hung back in the training room,” said Harbaugh to CSN Bay Area. “We’ll see what exactly it is, (when) we have some more information for you.”"
The positive sign is that Wednesday saw the most strenuous activity for Lattimore since he went down in October 2012 as a player for the South Carolina Gamecocks. With this type of hiatus from on-the-field activity, it’s not unusual for a player to experience a bit of soreness in the previously injured area. The 49ers medical staff is most likely being more precautionary than anything else.

For now, Lattimore has not been activated to the 53-man roster and remains on the NFI list (non-football injury) meaning the chances of him appearing in Sunday’s contest become slimmer by the moment. As it stands, releasing him to practice now begins a 21-day countdown in which the 49ers are going to have to decide his fate on the team.
He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2013 draft and has yet take an NFL snap. With the 21-day clock ticking louder and louder as the days progress the 49ers will eventually have to decide if they’re going to activate him, keep him on the NFI list, or release him altogether.
