San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Anquan Boldin gets wide open behind defense for a 27-yard touchdown reception.

The San Francisco 49ers are taking on the St.l Louis Rams on Sunday, not the most compelling of match ups but the NFC West is deep and the 49ers are playing keep up with the Arizona Cardinals in the division at the moment.

The game was tied at three early in the second half as the 49ers drove down the field as an interesting scoring play developed.

This play doesn’t look designed, but a thing of beauty nonetheless for many reasons. First, 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is scrambling towards the near-side of the field. He pump fakes to drawl the defensive backs on an under route to tight end Vernon Davis (it looks like, hard to read the numbers).

At the same time, wide receiver Anquan Boldin is going on a slant route that mirrors that under route but deeper. The player defending him bites on the pump fake but Boldin had peeled off, breaking his route to sit in a huge whole downfield.

Kaepernick found him and the touchdown was a piece of cake from there.
