The Tony Romo-less Dallas Cowboys lost to the Arizona Cardinals, but they’re standing by back up quarterback Brandon Weeden despite a poor performance in the loss.
The Dallas Cowboys were without quarterback Tony Romo this week after he suffered a back injury in last week’s Monday Night Football game against the Washington Redskins. He valiantly returned to that game, but the Cowboys held him out this week in an effort to allow him to get healthy.
In his place, back up quarterback Brandon Weeden played. It is a tall order trying to fill Romo’s shoes and Weeden was less than stellar.
Weeden completed just 18 of 33 passes for 183 yards, and threw two interceptions. one of those interceptions led to a Cardinals touchdown.
The lone touchdown pass Weeden threw came after the game was well out of reach. 12 of those 18 completions went to players who weren’t wide receivers as well, with an average of 5.5 yards per pass.
Still, the Cowboys are supporting Weeden.
Dez Bryant on missing Tony Romo today: "Truthfully, of course, I missed him. But I believe in Weeden, too. I believe in him."

DeMarco Murray on Tony Romo's absence: "Brandon led us. He did a good job. As individual players, we've just got to make more plays"

Former NFL coach Mike Ditka had harsher criticism for the Cowboys and Brandon Weeden, though it doesn’t necessarily gel with what the players are saying.
Mike Ditka: "As an organization, if you have a backup quarterback that you don’t think you can win with, shame on you."
