Jose Fernandez of the Miami Marlins will not be able to return until the middle of the MLB season in 2015 as he works his way back from Tommy John surgery.

Anybody who was hoping that Jose Fernandez might return to the top of the Miami Marlins’ starting rotation ahead of schedule will have to temper their expectations.
One of the most disappointing occurrences of the 2014 season was the fact that the electric Fernandez was lost to a season-ending elbow injury and forced to undergo Tommy John surgery. Not only did it cost him the remainder of the 2014 season, but it will cost him a big chunk of the first half of the 2015 season.

That is not necessarily a big change in Fernandez’s timetable, but it still makes sense for the Marlins to make it very clear that the rehab process is still underway and that it will be a while yet for Fernandez.
Through eight starts last season, Fernandez went 4-2 with a 2.44 ERA and an incredible 70 strikeouts in 51.2 innings of work. He is one of the best pitchers in baseball when he’s right, but the Marlins will have to wait to have him back in the mix next season.
