The Ole Miss Rebels lost their second game of the season on Saturday night, dropping a close 35-31 game to the No. 3 ranked Auburn Tigers. That game, and probably their College Football Playoff chances is not all they lost, though, as they’ll have to go without star wide receiver Laquon Treadwell for the remainder of the season.
Late in the fourth quarter while he was going in for what looked like it could end up being the game winning touchdown, Treadwell was taken down awkwardly and had to be carted off the field.
At the time it was believed that he had just suffered some damage to his ankle when you looked at the replays, but now we’re learning that the injury is a little more severe. The Rebels sophomore fractured his fibula in addition to dislocating his ankle, and he will be undergoing surgery on Saturday night.
This is a devastating blow for one of the best wideouts in the nation, and you can only hope that he has as speedy of a recovery as possible and get back on the field better than ever when he’s medically cleared.
On the season, Treadwell caught 38 passes for 529 yards and four touchdowns.
