The weather in New England has just taken a turn for the frigid worse and that should terrify Peyton Manning.

Oh, the weather outside is frightful. No, seriously it is. The infamous Brady/Manning Bowl has taken a turn for the weird as the New England Patriots‘ field is now covered in snow. To add insult to injury, it’s 38 degrees and the wind is kicking like Ralph Macchio to the tune of 18 mph.

If you’re a Denver Broncos‘ fan, this should concern you. Why? Because Peyton Manning struggles in the cold. It’s not to say he will play terrible because that story is yet to be written today. The fact is, however, that it certainly slows down his attack and for a variety of reasons.

The only thing Peyton can truly control (other than scoreboard operators) is himself. He’ll try and make the necessary adjustments to make sure that he can physically deal with the elements. The other conundrum is how the young talent around him will adapt. Luckily for him, wide receiver Wes Welker knows a thing or two about playing in this type of environment from his days as a Patriot.

In fair weather, this may have turned out to be more of a true contest between the two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks. Now, maybe not so much. In games where the temperature is below 40 degrees, Manning’s record is a disturbing 8-11 with 30 touchdowns to 23 interceptions. That’s scary. Broncos fans are hopeful today will see that 8 turn into a 9. Bundle up.
