The two teams traded field goals in the first quarter before San Francisco got into the end zone in the game’s second frame thanks to a 27-yard strike from quarterback Colin Kaepernick to Anquan Boldin.
However, the Rams would even the score at 10-10 later in the second quarter after a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Austin Davis to receiver Kenny Britt.
The Rams were able to tack on a 39-yard field goal from Greg Zuerlein with 5:25 remaining that proved to be the game-winning score.
The 49ers had a chance to win the game late, but a Kaepernick fumble at the Rams’ one-yard line with nine seconds left capped off a crazy finish and gave St. Louis the win.
Davis finished the game 13-of-24 for 105 passing yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Tre Mason was St.Louis’ top rusher on the day with 65 yards and Benjamin Cunningham led the Rams with 38 receiving yards.
On the other side, Kaepernick was 22-of-33 for 237 yards and a touchdown. Frank Gore added 49 yards on the ground and Boldin posted 93 receiving yards.
Next Sunday, the 49ers will play the New Orleans Saints on the road and the Rams will play the Arizona Cardinals on the road.
