The New England Patriots got off to a good start in their huge showdown with the Denver Broncos.
Thus far, at least recently, these two teams have looked like the best the AFC has to offer (they were last year, too – the Broncos defeated the Patriots in the AFC Championship). The Broncos are 6-1 while the Patriots are 6-2 so this game could play a huge factor in where a potential AFC Title Game rematch would be played.
The Patriots, however, couldn’t find the end zone, settling for three on each of their two drives. Trailing 7-6 in the second quarter, linebacker Rob Ninkovich intercepted Peyton Manning and returned it 11 yards to set the Patriots up at the Broncos’ 34. It was the second straight game he made a huge play – he returned a fumble for a touchdown in the Patriots’ 51-23 win over the Chicago Bears last week.
The interception set up Tom Brady’s five-yard touchdown toss to Julian Edelman to put the Patriots up 13-7.
