The decision to start Robert Griffin III in today’s NFL action was not made by Washington Redskins‘ head coach Jay Gruden, it was the higher ups in the organization.
The Washington Redskins defeated the Dallas Cowboys last week due to a clutch game from third-string quarterback Colt McCoy who has shown some signs of having true NFL talent over the past couple of weeks. Kirk Cousins was unable to take advantage of his opportunity as the starter, but Robert Griffin III is back and will be put back into the starting lineup this week.

According to a report from Evan Silva from Rotoworld.com, the decision to start Griffin this week was not made by head coach Jay Gruden.
Multiple people up higher in the Redskins’ organization have been pushing for Griffin to return as the starting quarterback, and they will be granted their wish. There is no denying the potential that Griffin has for the future, but he simply hasn’t been able to deliver since his rookie year due to injury issues.

Needless to say, it will be intriguing to see how the Redskins play with Griffin under center this afternoon against the Minnesota Vikings. He is coming off of a rough ankle injury, and will be thrown right back into the action. Minnesota isn’t the most dangerous defense in the league, but they have some players who are more than capable of stepping up and making plays.
All of that being said, this is an intriguing piece of news and it brings the question of whether or not the Redskins could turn back to McCoy if Griffin is unable to perform well. The Redskins are in need of a big run if they want to get back into the thick of the playoff race at 3-5, and it will be intriguing to see if Griffin can help them make that run.
