MTV was still airing videos the last time the San Diego Chargers left Miami with a win, a streak that will continue — with or without MTV returning to its January 1982 ways — following a 37-0 loss that dropped San Diego to 5-4 overall.

The Chargers had no answer for Ryan Tannehill, who looked as if he had taken the recent advice from Dolphins (5-3) NFL Hall of Fame QB Dan Marino. Tannehill picked the San Diego secondary apart with 288 yards and three touchdowns while completing 24 of his 34 passes. He also kept the Chargers off balance by rushing for 47 yards on four carries.

A Tannehill 2-yard touchdown pass to Charles Clay, a 2-yard scoring run from Lamar Miller and a pair of Caleb Sturgis field goals gave the Dolphins a 20-0 halftime lead, but Miami burst the floodgates with a pair of Tannehill touchdown strikes in the third quarter, as he found Rishard Matthews for a 21-yard score and capped off the day’s scoring with a 14-yard toss to Jarvis Landry. The TD passes were sandwiched around a third field goal from Sturgis.

On the other side of the field, Chargers QB Phillip Rivers had no solution for the Dolphins defense, as he was held to 133 yards passing while also throwing three interceptions and losing a fumble. San Diego was outgained by a whopping 441-178 edge.
