Lamarr Houston has been put on injured reserve by the Chicago Bears Monday, the team announced, and have promoted defensive end David Bass from the practice squad to the active roster.
The team already knew Houston would be out for the season after he ruptured his ACL while celebrating a sack on New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo during the fourth quarter of Chicago’s 51-23 loss to the New England Patriots two games ago.

The Bears signed Houston this past offseason to a five-year, $35 million deal with $14.9 million guaranteed. Houston had been a disappointment before his injury, failing to record a single sack before the one that he celebrated a bit too much.
According to ESPN.com’s Michael C. Wright, the Bears expected Houston to take six-to-eight months to recover from the injury.
It’s a tough loss to the Bears, if only because they invested quite a bit in Houston helping to solidify that line. Houston wasn’t playing well, but had plenty of time to turn things around before his season-ending injury.
The Bears currently have Willie Young and Jared Allen–both also acquired this offseason–starting at the defensive end spots. Houston spent four years with the Oakland Raiders before signing with Chicago. He has 179 total tackles and 17 sacks in his career.
