The Indianapolis Colts traveled to face the New York Giants on Monday Night Football and won comfortably by a final score of 40-24 to wrap up the NFL‘s week 10 schedule.

Andrew Luck was great in his team’s week 9 showdown with the New York Giants…eventually. He was great eventually, but certainly not at first. Unfortunately for Eli Manning and the Giants, they got off to an even worse start than the Colts and ended up getting blown out at home by a final score of 40-24.

Both offenses sputtered early, with the score only 3-0 Colts after the first quarter. Things gradually loosed up for the Colts as they put up 13 in the second quarter to take a 16-3 halftime lead into the locker room. Then in the second half, things got ugly for the Giants’ defense.

Luck and the Colts’ offense got rolling as they put together two long touchdown drives and scored 21 in the third quarter. They then kept things rolling in the fourth quarter and ran away this game.

Luck continued his assault on opposing defenses from the second quarter onward, throwing for 354 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. He connected with Coby Fleener, T.Y. Hilton, Reggie Wayne, and Dwayne Allen for those scores. Perhaps no play was sweeter than this touchdown catch from Hilton, who had 71 yards receiving in this game.

Wayne chipped in a nice catch and run for his touchdown in his return to the lineup from an injury.

As for the Giants, they struggled for a number of reasons. In the first half, Eli Manning got no help from his receivers. After a series of drops, Manning just started to make those usual Eli Manning mistakes with the pressure on to make a comeback.

The Giants’ quarterback did not throw any interceptions, but he did lose a key fumble and just play an ugly game at times, even if he did end up with 359 yards and two touchdowns of his own. Odell Beckham, Jr. would have a big day, putting up 156 yards receiving, but much of that was a volume of targets because nobody else could catch the football.

The story of this game was the Giants failing to capitalize on a slow start from the Colts and then imploding defensively. Early on in this game you would not have thought that Luck and the Colts would end up with 443 yards and 40 points, yet that is exactly what happened.

In many ways, this Eli Manning face says more about this game than any retelling ever could.

The Colts are now 6-3. They have their bye this week and then face the New England Patriots in week 11. The Giants are now 3-5 on the season and headed for a tough game in Seattle against the Seahawks in week 10.
