McCarthy won’t be leaving the Packers any time soon after agreeing to an extension as he could be a lifer with the Packers and go down as one of the franchise’s best head coaches, joining the likes of the legendary Vince Lombardi, Curly Lambeau and Mike Holmgren as the best head coaches in franchise history.

“We are very happy to extend our relationship with Mike,” Thompson said, via the team’s website. “Over the past nine years, he’s provided great stability and consistency to the Packers organization and our community as an excellent coach and leader. He’s a good man and we look forward to the future with Mike as our head coach.”

McCarthy is third in franchise history with 93 wins and led the Packers to the playoffs six times, won four division titles and the Super Bowl in 2010. His 93 wins rank third in franchise history behind Lambeau (212) and Lombardi (98), so he could pass Lombardi and move into second place if the Packers get to 11 wins this year, they’re currently 5-3.
