The Houston Texans are mulling their options at quarterback and could bench Ryan Fitzpatrick in favor of Ryan Mallett

Bill O’Brien has a decision to make as the Houston Texans being their bye week having lost four of their last five games and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick could be the scapegoat for a team whose season is slipping away and could be benched.

Fitzpatrick threw for 203 yards on 13-of-27 passing with two touchdowns and an interception while getting sacked four times in the 31-21 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in what may be his final start with the Texans as O’Brien and the Texans look for a spark as they head down the stretch of the regular season.

"“I think we have to evaluate everything,” O’Brien said, via the Houston Chronicle. “… I think we have to look at, as far as what we’re doing offensively, we have to look at … who’s playing what, what positions they’re playing, how we’re getting the ball, how we’re playing at every position, including quarterback — we have to look at all of that.”"

The Harvard educated Fitzpatrick is smart enough to realize that the NFL is a results oriented business and he hasn’t produced the results necessary to keep his job, so Ryan Mallett could get the chance to start in Week 11 against the Cleveland Browns.

Mallett was acquired in a trade in the offseason from the New England Patriots and is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the year so it would be wise to see what they have in Mallett before the offseason so they can plan accordingly for the NFL Draft and free agency so they’re not hurt at the game’s most important position like they are this year.
