Joe Maddon as introduced as the new manager of the Chicago Cubs on Monday and the charismatic and engaging personality began his tenure with a win over the Chicago and national baseball media and the fans of the Cubs with his sense of humor and optimism, even referencing the playoffs for the team in a perpetual state of rebuild.

The Cubs have been stuck in the cellar of the National League Central for the last few years as the Cubs have had a great deal of turnover from the top with new ownership, new president, general manager, scouting director and three managers in the last three years, but Maddon is ready to talk playoffs now.

Maddon cited the challenge of winning with this franchise and the pleasure of winning outweighing the pressure to win.

Patience is a virtue and good tings come to those who wait, and Cubs fans have been waiting since 1908 for a World Series winner, but Maddon is confident they will be successful.

The Cubs finished 73-89 last year, 17 games back of first place, but with the number of elite prospects the Cubs have in their lineup, including a pair of young All-Stars in Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo and free agent money to spend, why can’t the Cubs do what the Royals did this year or what the Rays did during Maddon’s tenure?
