Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder recently admitted that he made a mistake in his candidate choosing for Senate.

Kansas State head coach Bill Snyder, who has been universally praised for years for being everything that is right with college football, made a surprising mistake last week that he owned up to. The coach apologized for appearing in the campaign ad for Republican Senator Pat Roberts following his team’s 48-14 win over Oklahoma State this past weekend, according to College Football Talk.

The incumbent senator, seeking his 4th term, is in a heated race with independent Greg Orman. The ad, which began running last Thursday, shows pictures of Snyder with Senator Roberts, as well as an interview with Coach Snyder calling the senator a “good friend” and explaining why he would be voting for him.

The coach said that he made a mistake appearing in the ad after Kansas State president Kirk Schulz released a memo the next day after the commercial first ran, stating that the university has a policy against its employees publicly endorsing political candidates. The coach refused to go into detail about it, simply saying he made a mistake and also apologized for embarrassing the university.

It has been reported by the Topeka Capital-Journal that part of the commercial might have actually been filmed on the Kansas State campus.

The university and Coach Snyder asked that the ad be pulled over the weekend, although Senator Roberts’ campaign team said that they never received a request for it to be pulled. The ad, which ran for two days, was officially pulled from TV on Sunday night.

Coach Snyder is one of the least controversial coaches in all of college football, which makes his appearance in the campaign ad that much more surprising. Now the head coach and his 9th ranked Wildcats will move forward toward a huge top 10 showdown with 6th ranked TCU this Saturday night, a game that has both Big 12 title and college football playoff implications.
