Dan Mullen’s Mississippi State Bulldogs are the big surprise of the 2014 college football season after beginning the season unranked the Bulldogs rose to the No. 1 ranking where they have been the last three weeks and if the Football Power Index from ESPN is correct, they will stay there for the rest of the regular season.

The FPI projects Mississippi State to win the SEC West, the toughest division in college football, with a 48 percent chance of getting to the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta against the winner from what looks like a wide open east division.

Alabama is the team with the next best odds at 30 percent and host Mississippi State on Nov. 15 and the Auburn Tigers have the third best odds at 15 percent, meaning they would need to win out and need Alabama to defeat Mississippi State and Ole Miss to knock off the Bulldogs in their Egg Bowl matchup at the end of the year to win the west for the second straight year.

Who do you think will get through the gauntlet that is the SEC west?

Will Mississippi State manage to go undefeated? Will Alabama knock off the Bulldogs and rival Auburn in the Iron Bowl at the end of the season to overcome their early loss to Ole Miss and are the Rebels done after losing for the second straight week?
