Sidney Crosby, Tyler Seguin, and Corey Perry are the league’s three stars for October

Huge congratulations to Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks, and Tyler Seguin of the Dallas Stars for being named the NHL‘s Three Stars for October.

Corey Perry received the first star, with a mind-blowing ten goals in twelve games and a hat trick, leading the league in goals for October. Crosby and Seguin were tied to lead the league with fifteen points apiece (7 G, 8 A for both skaters) in nine games for the Penguins (Crosby) and ten games for the Stars (Seguin). All three teams are currently sitting on pretty powerful records to start off the season; the Anaheim Ducks are in first overall with twenty points (10-3-0), while the Stars have made do with some shaky defending and the Penguins continue to play well in a volatile Eastern Conference. Crosby deserves the accolade for his back-to-back three point games, while Seguin came off a two game pointless streak to earn points in seven consecutive matches.

NBC’s Pro Hockey Talk mentioned that a few key players were left out of the celebration, but deserve notice nonetheless- San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns leads the league in scoring for blue liners (13 points in 12 games), Ducks netminder Frederik Andersen has a jaw-dropping 1.60 GAA and a .941 SV% in his first eight games of the season (in which he went 7-1-0, and Philadelphia Flyers forward Jakub Voracek leads the lead in assists (13) to achieve a team-high fifteen points in ten games.

In addition, Minnesota Wild netminder Darcy Kuemper started off the season with 3 shutouts (against the Colorado Avalanche and the Arizona Coyotes), while Calgary Flames defensemen TJ Brodie and Mark Giordano, along with Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle, come in right under Burns for high-scoring defensemen with 12, 11, and 10 points apiece in 13 games for Calgary and 11 for Arizona.
