The comeback for San Francisco 49ers running back Marcus Lattimore will be coming to an end, as he is expected to retire and end his short NFL career.
When Marcus Lattimore was tearing up the turf at South Carolina in his college days it was looking like he might be a first round pick in the draft. That was saying a lot considering how devalued the running back position has become, but Lattimore was looking to change that.

Then he went from tearing up the turf to tearing up ligaments in his knee, as he ended his senior season at South Carolina with a knee injury that looked like it would derail his NFL career. Lattimore was still drafted by the San Francisco 49ers, but even after a year and a half of rest, it doesn’t appear he’s going to ever hit an NFL field.
According to ESPN’s Adam Caplan, Lattimore is going to retire rather than continue his comeback from his knee injury.

Marcus Lattimore’s agent refutes this though, saying that his client hasn’t made a decision yet.

You can’t say that Lattimore gave up, as he tried for almost two years to come back from his knee injury and made it so far that there was talk of him being activated this year. That won’t happen though with Lattimote retiring rather than pressing on with his career. Sometimes, football isn’t the only important thing in a guy’s life, which is evident in the career of Marcus Lattimore, which could have been so much more than it was — but he’s okay with that.
